I had my message for the monthly newsletter written to you by Memorial Day.
And then, all Hades broke loose.
We were watching people being murdered before our very eyes.
We were watching "Minnesota Nice" people rioting, looting, burning.
We were watching the definition of chaos running up and down our streets.
While I hate that we are dealing with this--the death, the destruction, the denial--I'm grateful that it has awoken in me a desire to fight for understanding in my own white brain. It's created in me an urgency to not just "be nice" to fellow black citizens but to actually reach out and have a conversation. To engage. To be uncomfortable. To ask the wrong questions on the way to asking the right questions.
And I hate that this is what it took to open my eyes.
We want to encourage you with this month to spend time with your kids, your family, to have meaningful conversations and to start making a change.
I'm committing myself to this pursuit by putting it on my to-do list. Will you join me?
