Last week, we took my daughter to the doctor to doublecheck a tick bite she got at camp.
We were a little worried about Lyme Disease, but we weren't terrified of it. She's had it once before, and we got through it. We can do this again. (I'm not trying to diminish other people's experiences with Lyme Disease. I know it can be a really hard. And that' putting it mildly)
When you live through things--tough things--and make it out on the other side, you learn that the fear is worse than the actual thing.
In the past couple of years, our family has experienced seizures, being stuck in a ravine and the only way out was swimming over waterfalls, international trips with kids, driving on twisty mountain roads, homeschooling four kids, an application for PSEO, not to mention all the pandemic unknowns, conflicts, and animosity.
Being on this side of those hard things doesn't always make scary things easier. At least it doesn't for me. What it does do is settle some of the fear I feel when facing similar situations.
