FFTC likes to use the month of November to highlight some of the ways our families can give back. With gift-giving season right around the corner, it's a great time to make sure our little ones can see how blessed they are and in that bless
others.
Here are some points to consider when trying to find volunteering opportunities for your whole family.
- Volunteering is a chance to help and to learn. Even if the actual task seems mundane or not worth the effort, whatever type of service you do can be accompanied by conversations that lead to deeper understanding which ultimately makes it worth every ounce of effort you put into it.
- Volunteering exposes ourselves and our kids to
different situations and people than we come into contact with on a normal basis. And that is a big deal! If our kids find it normal to be in "uncomfortable" situations, they will be able to navigate them as they mature.
- Volunteering is a way to be present. Whether you helping a food shelf or making gift boxes or drawing cards, you are prioritizing someone else's needs over your own comfort. And the more we do
that, the more our eyes open to the people around us.
